because they didn’t know what else to do. It’s just the two of them. Dana
didn’t want her daughter to have an abortion, but she didn’t want her to be
alone. As they pulled into the office
parking lot, they saw one of the protesters with a large sign showing an
aborted baby.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“That did it,” Dana said.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“When Vikki saw that guy, she got really angry and said that no one was
going to tell her what to do.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Before
that, she might have been able to talk her daughter out of the abortion, but
not now.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The wait was going to be fairly
long, so Dana stepped out to smoke a cigarette.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She walked around the parking lot, in the opposite direction from the
protester.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She saw a woman standing at
the north entrance who called out to her, asking how she was doing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dana went over to the sidewalk counselor, and they began to
talk.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The counselor handed Dana
information from the pregnancy help center and explained that the services were
free.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Dana couldn’t believe it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“We thought we didn’t have any choice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But if these people will help us…”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She left to get her daughter out of the
abortion facility.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">About forty minutes later, the counselor was surprised to
see Dana walking towards her again.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Do you have any more of that information?”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Of course.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Is
everything okay?”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Yeah, Vikki is fine, but there’s a woman in the parking lot
sitting in her car crying because she doesn’t know what to do.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I told her I’d bring her information about
all your help.”<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Before Dana left, the counselor told her, “You know there
was a reason you didn’t go to your car to smoke this morning.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>God helped you save two babies, your
grandchild and a stranger’s baby.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Dana
surely walked away feeling doubly blessed.<o:p></o:p></p>

A friend has adopted an hour a week to come to pray at this year’s prayer vigil at South Dallas Planned Parenthood. She and her husband went last week, but
yesterday she decided to post an invitation on social media a couple of hours
before she went, asking other prayer volunteers to join her.<p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">And oh boy did they!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A
family of six (three little girls and a boy), two young adults (one with his
guitar), her husband’s best friend (with his guitar), then two other friends,
and one more friend with her two-year-old little girl!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> 11 MORE!</span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">While they were all praying, a woman, Luz (not her real name) walked by.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She was crying, saying that she felt
helpless and wanted to have an abortion.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>The relationship with her boyfriend isn’t a good one, and she’s afraid
her mom will kick her out if she finds out about her pregnancy.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">One volunteer invited her to stay and pray with them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The two-year-old came up as they were
talking, said to Luz, “Hi!” and toddled off, smiling and waving. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>"All of us
are here for you.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These people were not
planning on being here, but it’s no coincidence," a volunteer shared. "God knew you were coming, and
this baby saying hi to you is another sign.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>We are here out of love for you for this very moment.” Luz began to weep. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Giving her information about the pregnancy resource center,
a vigil volunteer also got Luz’ number and told her she would ask a counselor to call
her and see about getting her help.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The
counselor and Luz have connected and we’re praying for all involved.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Luz had just been walking by yesterday.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Prayer and witness is a beautiful thing.<o:p></o:p></p>40 Days for Life-Dallashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08363213454238473483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6448792286998946348.post-4125027129352888382018-10-29T11:46:00.000-07:002018-10-29T11:46:48.717-07:00Hold the Line<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
“Men must be strong, brave and true.” These are
words that I’ve heard my husband say many times. So how do men bring
these qualities to the sidewalk?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Deeply ingrained in men is the instinct to hold the line,
to protect those whom they love. We see this same commitment every day on
the sidewalk. One of the counselors is an older gentleman. Young
men are drawn to him because he tells them the unvarnished truth about their
responsibilities as men and fathers.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
At the 40 Days for Life prayer vigil, the rain was cold
and coming down pretty hard, so we told Steve, one of the prayer volunteers,
that he could pray from his car if he wanted to. “No,” he said, “I want
them to see me.” He stood praying the Rosary near the driveway, unconcerned
about being cold and wet. He was there on an important mission, and he
was doing his duty.<o:p></o:p></div>

For several years now, two of our Knights of Columbus
have taken a day off from work during 40 Days to shuttle people out to pray at
the abortion center and then back to the parish. One of them says it’s
like a prayer all day; he says he is the one who is blessed by being with these
people coming to witness for life.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
My friend Angel asked me how coverage was going for a
Wednesday afternoon. “Not good,” I told him. “We still have six
hours open. Why? Can you come pray for an hour?” <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
“No,” he said, “I can come pray for six.” <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
“Are you sure?” I asked him. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
“Of course. I have no choice. My Mother Mary
has asked me to do this, so I must go.” <o:p></o:p></div>

Another prayer warrior has diabetes and had to have a
partial amputation of his foot, but he has signed up for twelve hours
throughout the vigil. Knights have spent from one to twelve hours on the
sidewalk in front of the Planned Parenthood during this 40 Days for Life.
And so far, five women have chosen life for their babies, leaving the abortion
facility with their lives still intact. And these are the ones we know
about. <o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
South Dallas Planned Parenthood is in a quiet location,
surrounded mostly by medical offices. Yesterday afternoon, we had three
people who drove past, giving us thumbs up and calling out, “Good job.” A
worker from one of the medical labs walked over to talk for a while, saying
they were glad we were there. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
And an older lady pulled up to tell us that she could
hardly stand to go to her doctor because having Planned Parenthood next door
was so distressing. She said, “I miscarried two babies, and I can’t
believe that someone would intentionally…”. She couldn’t finish her
sentence. We asked her to pray and she said she would.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
The Feast of the Guardian Angels was this week. How
wonderful it is that we each have a Guardian Angel watching over us, aiding our
prayer, and presenting our souls to God at death. Angel means messenger,
and the angels not only take our messages to God, but they also bring His
messages to us. Padre Pio spiritually adopted lots of sons and daughters,
and he would ask them to send their Guardian Angels if they were in need.
He would send his Guardian Angel to pray for them too.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
In <i>Send Me Your Guardian Angel</i>, a book about Padre
Pio’s relationship with angels, the author relates a story about one of Padre
Pio’s spiritual children, Cecil Humphrey-Smith. Involved in a terrible
car wreck, Cecil was seriously injured. A friend went to the post office
to send a telegram to Padre Pio, letting him know and asking for prayers.
When he turned the telegram in at the window, the clerk handed the friend a
telegram from Padre Pio which said he would be praying for Cecil’s healing!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Months later Cecil was able to make the trip to see his
spiritual father and asked how Padre Pio had known so quickly about the wreck
and how the telegram had gotten there so quickly. Padre Pio asked him,
“Do you think the Angels go as slowly as the planes?”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Sometimes our Guardian Angels are sent to ask us for
prayers. Yesterday, this young man came to the prayer vigil because he
said he felt called to pray the Rosary. He came just when we needed him.
Thank you, Guardian Angels. <o:p></o:p></div>

On the day their parish had adopted for 40 Days for Life,
the ladies gathered at the corner to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet in
Spanish.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They watched and prayed while
sidewalk counselor called to a client.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Prayer support makes such a difference!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>The clients see people making the effort to leave their jobs or homes to
come stand on the sidewalk, praying for them and their babies. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Cate* is forty years old, and she and her husband, George*, have
four other children.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>George had brought
her to the abortion facility, but he wouldn’t come over to the counselors.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As sidewalk counselors, we aren’t supposed to
interrupt each other, but when the Holy Spirit takes over, you do what He
says.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And when you’ve worked together
for a while, you sense when your partner needs to share information and when
you should speak.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The two counselors began talking with Cate. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In a few minutes, she fell sobbing into the
arms of the counselors and agreed to go to the pregnancy resource center.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When they passed by the women praying on the
corner, Cate hugged all of them, too.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>And most of them went with her, praying all the way!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>George followed behind, and one of the prayer
volunteers walked with him.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
George wasn’t very happy with his wife.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He said she was the one who wanted to come to
the abortion facility – all he wanted to do was support her decision.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>At the pregnancy resource center, tensions continued
to rise between the two of them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Couples
arguing in such a stressful situation can be dangerous for the baby, so the
sonographer stepped in to say it was time they saw their child, and took them
back to the exam room.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>After the
sonogram, one of the counselors took the couple to the chapel to pray together.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That sealed the deal. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It’s a great gift to see a couple after they’ve decided to
keep their baby.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This couple came back
to see the counselors, bringing their sonogram pictures.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>On one was written “Hola, Mami!” <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Cate pointed out one picture where the baby
looked like he was sucking his thumb.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
One of the counselors said later that it was as though they
were completely different people.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This
couple was happy, smiling and at peace.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>They even showed off the new box of diapers and other gifts they’d
gotten from the pregnancy center!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Their
baby is 10 weeks and three days old.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Thank
God there were people who cared enough to pray for him and his parents.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Your prayer can make a difference.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We know because we have seen it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Won’t you please prayfully consider what one
hour out of your day could do for a family?<o:p></o:p></div>

40 Days for Life-Dallashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08363213454238473483noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6448792286998946348.post-71939004990712400952017-10-23T13:11:00.001-07:002017-10-23T13:11:00.816-07:00The Sidewalk Doesn't Get Any SofterPeople ask me, “When is the best time to come pray?” I guess they are asking when is their prayer the most effective. Maybe during the cool of the morning, when the workers are going in. They’ve spent time away - at home with their families, trying to convince themselves what they’re doing is okay, or even good. They’ve done what they can to forget what they saw the day before. In their short walk from the parking lot to the office, we have the chance to witness that, no matter what they’ve done, we love them too. <br /><br />Or perhaps the best time is a bit later in the day, when clients begin to arrive. The women who’ve asked God for a sign that they shouldn’t go through with their scheduled abortion drive past us, sometimes parking and joyfully coming over to tell us that their prayers have been answered - just by our being there. Others hide their faces from us, ashamed at what they are about to do. Having us see them makes their consciences burn - enough, we hope, to drive them away.<br /><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX87dGuaQUcnCvg0DgUjVGsLgiW5vUFn_jneX1E6gn9QpU1mwi2cJwNflqaaj-mmY3lvG3D-heIdlHuHNuHMnnuP3PyV7mJswi71qays03UuJQ46GvqAvhzOTZUECb4XsKUXDj6oq8Aw_V/s1600/Picture1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="387" data-original-width="427" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX87dGuaQUcnCvg0DgUjVGsLgiW5vUFn_jneX1E6gn9QpU1mwi2cJwNflqaaj-mmY3lvG3D-heIdlHuHNuHMnnuP3PyV7mJswi71qays03UuJQ46GvqAvhzOTZUECb4XsKUXDj6oq8Aw_V/s320/Picture1.png" width="320" /></a>The weather can change, but the sidewalk doesn’t get any softer. Volunteers who kneel on the sidewalk to pray always astound me. How can the sight of their sacrifice not affect the workers and the clients, no matter the time of day?<br /><br />Late afternoon is the saddest time for me. The rides come, grim-faced fathers who’ve failed at the most basic responsibility a man has – protecting their own children. They load up their wives or girlfriends into the car, often in the backseat so the women can have more room. One counselor used to describe them as looking “shredded.” And that’s pretty accurate. Dazed, in pain, stunned with regret and loss – the sight of their faces can bring me to tears. I hate being outside the abortion center then. Which must mean it’s the time when my prayers are most needed. <br /><br />For others, the best time to pray is whenever God calls you to be there for His children.<br />

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">Kaye said she had missed her first scheduled hour at the
vigil.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Her little baby girl was asleep
in the backseat of the car, so Kaye had prayed from there.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We assured her that it still counted.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>40 Days for Life even recommends praying from
your car if you are the only one at the vigil.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Today she brought her 9-year-old son with her to pray. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">As she signed in, a car drove up and the man driving called
out to the counselor.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He wanted to know
what we were doing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She asked him to
park his car and come back to talk to her.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>And he did.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That always makes you
feel anxious because you might lose the person, but you have to do it to make
sure they are safely out of traffic.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">The man, Case, had one of his children with him. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Case and his wife have three children, with
the youngest only six months old.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>His
wife thought she was only a month pregnant.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>She could have an abortion since it wasn’t really a baby yet, was
it?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The counselor gave him information
and explained the damage that abortion could do to both them and their
family.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">Case looked thoughtful but didn’t say much before he
left.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The counselors continued to
minister as Kaye and her son prayed.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Their hour was almost up when Case came back to speak with the counselors.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>His wife’s tests showed that the baby was two
months along, not one.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And he had been able
to share with her what he had learned from the counselor.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He wanted to tell the counselors that he and
his wife were keeping their baby.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">You always feel a thrill when you hear those words.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>God’s most precious gift has been
affirmed.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Kaye and her son had witnessed
to life, making the effort to join in the vigil with fellow Christians and God
blessed them by showing His love for this baby and his family.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">God doesn’t always reveal lives saved to us.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But if we say yes to what He calls us to do,
we show Him and others our love.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We can
do all things through Christ, who gives us strength.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

Five Years AgoOn the first day of the vigil, a woman came over to talk to the prayer volunteers. She wanted to thank them for being there today ... and for being there five years ago. When she found out she was pregnant, she and her husband decided that they couldn't afford a child. So they made an appointment for an abortion. They noticed the people on the sidewalk as they drove in to the abortion facility parking lot. Walking to the front door, they'd even stopped to take literature from a sidewalk counselor, but they went inside to keep the appointment.<br />
<br />
While she and her husband sat in the waiting room, God heard our prayers and worked on their hearts. They listened to Him and decided to leave. This woman shared that choosing life for their son was the best decision they ever made. He has become their little prayer warrior -- always praying for other people, especially for the sick, and God answers his prayers. We look forward to the blessings the Lord will bestow on the vigil through the petitions of this beautiful family.
<br />
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #0b5394;">It's only the beginning, and our vigil has already seen incredible blessings. Please join the vigil, and find out what God has in store for the next 37 days!

This was our church’s adopted day at the 40 Days for
Life-Dallas prayer vigil. We started the
day at 6 am with seven prayer volunteers, several from the Knights of
Columbus. The area is well-lit, but
there is always a darkness around Planned Parenthood. One volunteer told me he could feel the
evil. But where sin abounds, grace
abounds all the more. We began our task
of covering this place of death with prayer, imploring the Blessed Mother to
intercede for all her children.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Around 7:15 am, the security guard for Planned Parenthood
showed up. The abortion center is
usually closed on Mondays, so his appearance was not a good sign. Sure enough, clients began arriving. We had a Sidewalk Counselor with us, along
with prayer support of five to ten people throughout the day.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Two Knights ran a shuttle in tandem from our parish,
starting at 8am. One of them, Chris, has
provided this service for several years.
When the Council’s pro-life director had first mentioned needing prayer
volunteers for 40 Days for Life, Chris knew he wanted to be involved, but
standing in prayer was not something he could do. “I asked God how I could be of service,” he
said, “and it came to me that I could drive people who otherwise couldn’t get
there so they could pray.” He takes a
day off from work and all day long, he brings people to and from the vigil.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
On her way out from one of the medical offices next door to
the abortion center, a woman stopped a prayer volunteer to ask, “Does Planned
Parenthood really perform abortions?” Her
question was yet another confirmation that we have to be present outside the
abortion center to witness to the truth, not just for 40 days but every day
they are open.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Our priest came to join us in an hour of prayer, bringing
his father with him. His dad, in his
nineties, insisted on being there, too. Having
clergy is a powerful witness, not just to the clients and workers, but to the
volunteers as well. The people gain heart
when the shepherds show up.<o:p></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
Throughout the day, volunteers came and went. Two construction workers with a job about 5
miles away dropped by to pray before heading home. And
the shuttle car brought their last group and waited until 6 pm. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

The girl is only sixteen. When she found out she
was pregnant, she went to the South Dallas Planned Parenthood to abort her
baby. Although Planned Parenthood is not known for adhering to rules,
this time they told the girl that she couldn’t have the abortion unless a
parent (in this case, her father) gave his permission in writing. She
would have to tell him she was pregnant. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">

After what must have been a painful and emotional
revelation, the father refused to help his daughter abort her baby.
Desperate, she told him that if he didn’t cooperate, she would commit
suicide. <o:p></o:p></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
The director of the Project Gabriel Ministry was brought into the situation, counseling and
offering prayers and help. Fearing for his daughter’s life, the father
told the director to leave him alone. He felt he had to agree to the abortion,
even though he didn’t want to. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">

All this time, prayers from 40 Days for Life volunteers
were covering the Planned Parenthood. <o:p></o:p></div>

Unexpectedly, the Project Gabriel Ministry Director heard back from the Dad. He had talked

daughter decided to keep the baby. Together, they were choosing life! </div>

Sometimes volunteers step up in unexpected ways. The sidewalk counselor was tied up with
someone else when a young African woman, toting a beautiful baby in a handheld
carrier, walked out from the abortion facility parking lot. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
A Knight of Columbus, untrained in the ways
of sidewalk counseling but realizing something needed to be done, stepped up to
her and asked if she had come from the Planned Parenthood. “Yes,” she replied
quietly. “Were you there for your first
appointment for an abortion?” “Yes.” </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Trying to recall what he’d heard sidewalk counselors say before, he told
her that everyone outside was praying for her and for her babies, born and
unborn. “We have resources and people to
help,” he said, and quickly dashed to the “You Have a Choice” brochures on the
sidewalk. Pressing one into her hand, he
told her, “Call these people. They will
help you with your pregnancy.” </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Smiling,
the woman took the brochure, looked at it, and then stuck it into her purse. “Thank
you,” she said, and went to wait for her ride.</div>

Volunteers who sign up parishioners to pray at the vigil
often learn a great deal in just a few moments of conversation. As she signed up, Maria shared encouraging
news that her parish prays the Rosary for Life every Wednesday and Friday. Theresa, a young mom, watched her daughter
holding the 20-week-old fetal model, and tears started down her cheeks. She reached out to caress the baby’s head and
told us that she had lost her baby when he was 20 weeks old. The memory was overwhelming.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
A young couple stopped by the table to check on times
that needed volunteers. The woman, Rosa,
started crying, silently but very powerfully, from a sorrow so deep she could
hardly bear it. Tomas, her husband, put
his arms around her, and we could tell they both felt a great deal of
pain. Tomas explained, “We just don’t
understand how anyone can do that to their baby. We’ve tried to have children for sixteen
years and lost five babies to miscarriage.
How can they do that?”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Sometimes volunteers can be surprised with a negative
response. One volunteer handed a flyer
to a young woman leaving Mass with her husband and little girl. The volunteer was describing 40 Days for Life
and leaned over to the table to pick up a map.
When she turned back to the woman, the man had taken the flyer away from
his wife and handed it back to the volunteer.
“We’re not interested,” he said. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
“Okay, well, will you please pray for us?” “I already do,” he said brusquely, as he took
his wife and child away. Not a typical response, but we'll take the prayers and offer them up for him too!</div>

During her pre-procedure examination, Planned Parenthood told her that she was going to have twins. When she asked to hear the heartbeats, they told her, "Oh, you don't want to hear that." So she left! After getting information from sidewalk counselors, she went to a pregnancy resource center. They confirmed the twins, and she decided to keep her babies! Woohoo!!! #PrayerWorks <br /><br />Please There's still time for YOU to experience the miraculous. Thank you all for your prayers and thank you to those who
were able to come out to the site and pray. We’ve had <u>six moms choose

We were reminded of that when a young woman having seen our "Pray to End Abortion" sign pulled up in a pickup truck.
She jumped out of the truck and hurried over to us saying, “Is that a petition
against this place? I’ll sign it.” We explained why we were there
and about 40 Days for Life, giving her some information. </div>

“This place is awful,” she said, wiping away tears.
“They lie to women. I was in the Marines and got pregnant. I was
going to be a single mom, but I would never have had an abortion. My
little girl is in the car, and she is such a blessing to me.” <o:p></o:p></div>

As God intended in this moment, the director of the local Healing after Abortion Ministry happened to be at the vigil site and could give this woman information about Rachel’s Vineyard in case she had any friends who might

daughter drove off. </div>

Richard comes to pray whenever he can. Sunday morning, he was at the vigil at 6am,
when the day was cool and still dark.
His relief showed up at 7am, but he decided to stay longer and pray with
them. He checked on the prayer coverage
for the afternoon. There was a gap at
1pm, so Richard decided he could come back to fill that. He had ushered at the vigil mass the night
before, so his Sunday was free. And what
better way to spend the Lord’s day than to pray and witness for life?</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<o:p></o:p></div>

As the neighborhood began to stir, a young woman walking
down the street crossed over to the vigil site and headed toward two prayer
volunteers. As she got closer, she threw
open her arms and gave each of them big hugs. “I always hug the Hispanic guy who comes out here,” she
said. “He’s always here praying for the
babies.” </div>

The weather was wonderfully chilly. As in years past, the coordinator of our church's presence at the vigil stayed the whole 12 hours. There were some surprises (i.e. not the usual
suspects) who came to pray. Several people from other churches / organizations strolled to the
vigil box to sign in and then quietly went to places to pray. (I love these
"40 Days" vigils... the constant trickle of those responding to God's
call on any given day to "go pray".)<o:p></o:p><br />
<br />
One of those "trickles" caught my attention. She arrived in a wheel chair, dropped off by a fellow church member. She is battling cancer (again)... or
rather is in the pain management stage... a different kind of battle. Courage.
She had never been outside
an abortion facility to pray before. Our church coordinator met her at the car and pushed the wheel chair down the sidewalk while heavy traffic seemed
to (perhaps) even slow a little. She was lightly wrapped in a soft silver
scarf which covered her head and gently drapped over her shoulders. The setting
sun created a backlit golden halo-like effect. Her skin seemed to almost glow.
The pallor of numerous cancer treatments seemed to all but disappear during the
short time she was praying with us... She looked so very much like a very
young girl. Beautiful.<o:p></o:p><br />
<br />
It was a 40 Days for Life day.... May God continue to be glorified and Jesus' Holy Name proclaimed in all things and in all ways in heaven and on earth.<br />

They were spoken by a fellow prayer volunteer not really expecting an answer. <br /><br />But those words have resonated with me. For three days in a row, I have covered 3 p.m. at the prayer vigil, the Hour of Mercy. Monday was slow, but on Tuesday, there were boyfriends, husbands and friends coming to pick up women who needed rides home after their abortions. <br /><br />One young man in long shorts with a Superman logo bounced down the steps to get the car, not realizing that he had already failed his job -- to protect his girlfriend and their child.<br /><br />A big, black SUV pulled out of the parking lot and into the driveway. I could see the passenger -- a dark-haired woman with an unbelievable amount of despair on her face. <br /><br />I put my hand on my heart and mouthed the words, "God bless you." She never looked away from me as the car drove past, her eyes locked on mine.<br /><br />Last night at the vigil, there were volunteers praying for the woman I saw and for all the other women who had scheduled appointments. Whoever they are, for whatever reason they come, the prayer volunteers were joined in love, praying that these women find they help they need.<br /><br />There is always a counseling and prayer presence on "procedure days," but we -- the faithful standing vigil -- are here every day, 24 hours a day, seven days a week during 40 Days for Life. <br /><br /><i>Where were you when I came to get my abortion here?</i><br /><br />We are here. <span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">A record 17 lives in only 16 days have been saved at the vigil site during this campaign so far. Praise God!! That's more than one baby per day -- but it didn't happen that way. Instead, the graces rained down in a flurry. During one hour in particular, while a devoted couple supported sidewalk counselors in prayer, five lives were saved... five hearts will keep beating... five mothers escaped suffering. In the words of one of those prayer volunteers:</span></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="background: white;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">My wife and and I were praying in front of the Southwestern abortion facility on
Monday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. During that time we got to see God
work miracles. There were sidewalk counselors there with us, and two of them had
babies in their arms. I have to believe that God used them to soften the
hearts of the mothers. </span><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"> </span><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">One particular mother came out of the facility with a picture in her
hands. One of the veteran sidewalk counselors asked her if that was a picture of her baby and
she said that it was. The counselor asked is she could see it. The mother began
walking towards us with a beaming smile. We all looked at the picture and were so
happy just as if it was a member of our family. The counselor said that she felt
like the grandmother. Prayer warriors and sidewalk counselors alike began shedding
tears of joy. </span><span style="background-color: transparent;"> </span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="background: white;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">The mother said that her boyfriend was in the Army and had wanted
her to have the baby. I asked her to please thank her boyfriend for his
service to our country. </span><span style="background-color: transparent;"> </span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="background: white;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">The counselor asked her if this was her first and she
said yes, and then asked if she was going to need diapers and other baby items, and once again the answer was yes. The counselor directed her to the nearby pregnancy resource center and away
she went with the biggest smile I saw all morning. </span></blockquote>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">On Saturday, a young mom was at the vigil praying with her two
little ones. It was getting a little past time for the next prayer volunteer to come,
but there were two people from another church praying too, so she wasn’t
worried. (She found out later that the volunteers for the next hour had
mistakenly gone to another facility.) </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">The young mom decided to stay and cover a
second hour. She watched a car drive into the parking lot of the abortion
facility. A couple got out of the car, at first heading to the front door
of the facility, but then they turned toward the volunteers. The
couple wanted to know what alternatives there were to having the
abortion! </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">The prayer volunteers were able to tell the couple about the nearby pregnancy
resource centers -- one in the very same office complex! The volunteers watched this new mom and dad as they walked over
to the resource center to receive <strong>real help</strong>. If the vigil had not been there, the couple would have
gone into the facility and perhaps made a fatal choice. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">What a
blessing for those praying on the sidewalk to be a part of the
first save of our 40 Days for Life vigil ... that we know of!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">**<em>Trained sidewalk counselors are typically present on the sidewalk when abortions are being performed and available to counsel clients considering abortion. Nearby pregnancy resource centers -- in the office complex and across the street -- also offer counseling and resources for parents in need. 40 Days for Life v</em></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><em>igil participants provide critical daily prayer support for these life-saving efforts.**</em></span>40 Days for Life-Dallashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08363213454238473483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6448792286998946348.post-79944299553611223492015-09-28T10:30:00.002-07:002015-09-28T10:30:18.846-07:00Two priests walked onto a sidewalk ...
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">We are already experiencing blessings on the sidewalk! First by clergy joining us in prayer...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Fr.
Joseph came out to the vigil site and stayed a good while with his flock. His parish family from St. Anthony drove him there and made sure he knew where to go and felt welcome!</span></div>
<br />
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Down
the road at the Planned Parenthood abortion referral center, another priest stopped by to briefly join those who have faithfully prayed at that location since it used to perform abortions (before the mega Planned Parenthood opened in South Dallas). He knelt on the sidewalk and led the sorrowful mysteries of the
rosary, blessed those on the sidewalk, and then off he went. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">And in another blessing a campaign team member showed up at the vigil site with "Pray to End Abortion" signs.
Before his arrival there were very few signs available for vigil volunteers, and none of them were 40 Days for Life signs. We were just about to contact the campaign to request some, and they appeared! </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Praise Holy Triune God for
all that He is doing and will do through this powerful time of prayer and witness.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
